Hello, I recently purchased a 4-pack of Nest Protect smoke alarms on 12/9/2024 online from a big box home improvement store.
Are there any solutions via Google to fix the situation?
Thank you,
Rod

Google expects resellers to have good stock rotation policies that ensure stock isn't unnecessarily sitting on shelves leading to this issue. In the first instance, I'd recommend returning them to the place of purchase and enquire about their stock that hopefully has a more recent manufacture date.

Browse thru these forums a bit and see if you really want to spend the $ on these. Signs are showing a "quiet" end of life of the Nest Protect. Purchase limits on the Google website, and this older stock from online inventory are clues to me.
Google's lack of communication on migration or development progress has shown they have no desire to actually migrate these into Google Home. Yup, they do NOT work in Google Home and require the legacy Nest app.
Google bought Nest a DECADE ago and launched Google Home in 2016. If they wanted to, they would.

I bought the last unit I needed to finish a new home. Just arrived from the Google Store on Monday. Date code was 2230. Even Google themselves is selling old units.

Wish I had come across this thread sooner as it would have saved me the headache I went through with Best Buy. The device I bought was manufactured in May 08 2023 so also 1.5 years into the 10 years. After multiple calls with support on both sides, Best Buy and Google pointed the finger at each other as a “screw you” to the consumer. At what these cost, I returned it. I was looking forward to using the product; however, after the support experience, it’s back to the drawing board.
