Phone notifications don't work -- help?

I recently installed 8 Nest Protect devices, am able to manage their settings from my iphone, but got no notification on my phone when our family room device was recently triggered by a tiny amount of smoke from the nearby kitchen (not even noticed by people in the kitchen, so _great_ device sensitivity!).  And my phone shows no history of that ever happening.  In other forums there are multiple people who report that their phones do not get notifications, and in this Google Nest forum there are several people who report this.  But I don't see any  responses/solutions other than making sure that both my Nest Protect app AND my Google Home app are set to allow all notifications to my phone.  They both are set that way.

Since my phone (iphone 13), my wifi system (Deco MESH) and these devices are all fairly new, widely-used, and generally _highly_ reliable, I am hoping there's a simple fix.

BUT: If phone notifications can't be made to work reliably, I will _seriously_ regret having spent well over $1,000 for these.

SO PLEASE:

1. Let me know if there are other solutions I should be trying; OR

2. Let me know the best way to get help with this from Google.

Thanks!

I have the same question.  Brought 16 Next Protects over a year ago for a business and they have been triggered from a toaster, but I do not receive any type of notification on the iphone (banner notification, text, or an email to the gmail account required to setup the nest). I have all of the notification requirements enabled from the Nest Protect whitepapers that I and a few coworkers have reviewed several times.  I am thinking that Nest Protect specifically does not have the text, email, and phone notification alert capabilities that is advertised for all of their products, but I need someone to prove that wrong.  It would be an unfortunate mistake for this specific protect line to not have a reliable alert system. I challenge Nest to do better.

Hey folks,

I'm sorry for the delay and trouble. What type of Nest Protect do you have? What iOS version are you using? Critical alerts let you know about important events, like a smoke or carbon monoxide alarm, even if your phone's volume is set to low and you've turned on Do Not Disturb. To receive critical alerts from Google Nest, you'll need to turn them on both in General notifications in the Google Home app and in your phone's settings.

To set up critical alerts:

  1. Open the Home app > tap Settings > Notifications > General notifications.
  2. Turn on critical alerts.
  3. Check for a banner at the top of the screen.
    • If there's a banner that says "Critical alerts are turned off in this device's settings", tap Turn on critical alerts, then follow the steps to complete setup in your phone's settings.
    • If there's no banner, you're all done.

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,

Archie
