Protect Wifi Upgrade

Veryfrustrated
Community Member

Hi All,

I've got 6 Gen 2 in my system. I've changed my wifi.
After following the standard Gen 2 procedure for changing Wifi, the protect and the app on my iphone won't connect to each other.
I have removed it from the system and tried to add it in again, but the protect and my app won't connect to each other.
I have pushed the button down till the protect says its checking wifi connection, blue light comes on, and nothing for about 5 min and then it turns yellow for 1 second and says try again.

It should not be this hard. What am I doing wrong? Please help me before I put  hammer to the product.

Hi Veryfrustrated,

I'm sorry to hear about your trouble connecting your Nest Protect to your new Wifi network. Since you already removed it from the Nest App, I would suggest resetting it to the factory default before setting it up to the Nest App. Don't forget that the Nest Protect can only be connected to the 2.4GHz bandwidth of the internet. Hit this link for more information.

Keep me posted.

Thanks,

Emerson

Hi Emerson,

Thank you for your reply to my cry for help.

Can you please explain what you mean by:  Don't forget that the Nest Protect can only be connected to the 2.4GHz bandwidth of the internet. I am not technical with this stuff.

Thanks

Hey there,

I wanted to check in, and see if I could be of some help. Some routers have a dual bandwidth with both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. If your router has this, I would recommend following the link here, and checking under number 8. This would provide you with more details. Please let me know if you have any questions from here, as I would be happy to take a closer look.

Best regards,

Jake

Hi Jake and Emerson,

Thank you for your replies.

I have reset one of the Protect to factory settings. But when I try to re-connect it using another protect nothing happens.

How do I set it up without using one of the other Protects? Do I need to re-connect all the Protects?

Why is it sooo hard to JUST reset the wifi on this product!!

Incredibly Frustrating!! It shouldn’t be this F hard.

Cheers for your assistance.

Regards Todd

This is where I'm at. I have 6 Protects, they were all connected to my previous Wifi. But then I changed Internet providers which meant a new Wifi setup. So now all 6 Protects are not connected to my wifi. I have put one unit back to factory settings and now I can't re-connect that to the other 5.

I have gone through all your setup procedures 1136 times and nothing.  PLEASE can you just provide me with a procedure that will get all the 6 Protects connected to my new Wifi.  Surely, it cant this hard.

Thank you Todd

Please provide me with

Hey Veryfrustrated,

Thanks for getting back to us. I would suggest you place all of them on the table near your Wifi router and reset all of them to the factory default. During setup make sure that they have the pulsing blue light, indicating that they are ready to be set up. Hit the link I provided above for the reset steps.

If you just reset one Nest Protect it will try to connect to your other Nest Protects which are still connected to your old Wifi network, that's why you need to reset all of them first before adding it back to the Nest App.

Looking forward to your response.

Emerson

Hi to all the employees of Google Nest,

Yes I am STILL unable to connect any on my 6 x Protects to the new wifi.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE why is it soooooooooooooooooo difficult to do this extremely simple task.

What full proof procedure do I need to do to get these connected. I have reset one to factory settings and can’t even get that to connect to my 6S iPhone to connect to the wifi.

Thank you & Regards

Todd

Hi, I have finally got it setup. I reset all units back to factory settings and removed them all from the app. Then it was just a matter of starting from scratch.

I don’t believe in any of your instructions it says to do this. To reset and remove all.
Anyway done know.
cheers

Tell me what do bases do? Why would I want them?
