If my house is burning down and my dog is inside, is there a way to get notified. By notified I mean a way that would actually get my attention that the house is burning down. A single beep, a little red dot on the nest app, or a notification on the Lock Screen May meet a lawyer’s definition, but I’m pretty sure my dog would die if my phone was in my pocket and I’m at the grocery store.
So a phone call preferred , The nest app buzzing until acknowledged. Or lastly a A text message
I see google is canceling support for ifttt. So I can’t see an effective way to save my dog from certain death. Unless I throw these away and buy a cheaper and actually useful smoke alarm that does affective notifications

Useless if you want a real notification .Also seems to be an abandoned product:

For both heads-up and emergency alarms, you will get an notification on your phone or tablet (as long as your Protect is connected to Wi-Fi and the internet). Alerts are saved in the Nest app in Messages. If you ever need to review them, just tap on the Messages icon on the Nest app home screen.

To add, there is no option to get a phone call or text message.

Let me qualify that response. You *may* receive a notification if your Protect is connected to wifi and the internet. I experienced an alarm on my Protect and did not receive a notification on any of my devices. There are multiple users that report the same issue.

I had an open support case referencing complete lack of notifications from the nest app to my phone(s) they have exhausted the basic diagnostic flow chart and have forwarded me to the black hole feedback form. I asked for an attempt at troubleshooting, involving asking probing wuestions like version numbers, symptoms, etc. They asked none of that info.
Consider the Nest Protect to be abandoned and plan a replacement when able. The official word is Google is still selling the protects, but from the forum info here, it's clearly not supported anymore.
