If the QR code or setup code is no longer readable:

  1. Plug a micro-USB cable into the back of Nest Protect, and connect it to a computer.
  2. Press and hold the button on Nest Protect until you hear it say "Checking the network, just a moment”.
  3. You should now see Nest Protect appear as an attached drive on your computer.
  4. Find the file with the “.pli” extension and open it with Notepad.
  5. Look for the line <key>PairingCode</key><string>XXXXXX</string>.
  6. Write down the 6 digit code.

You can now disconnect the micro-USB cable and use the 6 digit setup code during setup.

Hello KellySommeling,

I’m sorry for the trouble this has caused you. Let me help you out. If both the QR code and Entry Key are already erased for 1st generation Nest cameras, you can still set them up using a Windows computer. Make sure you remove the camera from the Nest app before connecting it to a computer. Check out this link to set up your camera on a computer.

Let me know if that helps.

Thanks,

Edmond
