Recycling Nest Protect in Canada

My Nest Protect just went end-of-life after 10 years. I purchased a new one and installed it.

 
The packaging material states that the old Protect can be recycled. However, the instructions are only for the US. Someone asked about this in the past, but the reply was simply a link to the US instructions. So, sorry for the bolding, but...

You can bring your old smoke detectors to a local community recycling centre.  Your best bet is to look at your municipal areas website, it should have guidance on this.  For example, I am in Mississauga, Ontario, and I was able to bring them to the community recycling centre and drop them off, no charge.
