My Nest Protect just went end-of-life after 10 years. I purchased a new one and installed it.

The packaging material states that the old Protect can be recycled. However, the instructions are only for the US. Someone asked about this in the past, but the reply was simply a link to the US instructions. So, sorry for the bolding, but...
How do I recycle my Nest Protect in Canada?

You can bring your old smoke detectors to a local community recycling centre.  Your best bet is to look at your municipal areas website, it should have guidance on this.  For example, I am in Mississauga, Ontario, and I was able to bring them to the community recycling centre and drop them off, no charge.

Hi rgaila,

To add to Ashepherdson's great advice, if you have a Nest Protect in a country other than the US, you can read the tips in the help centre article below for more information about proper disposal.
