I believe my Google Nest product to be faulty.
I have installed the recommended Energizer Ultimate Lithium batteries in my 2x Google Nest smoke alarms.
I have one alarm upstairs and another downstairs. They both contain fairly new batteries. The downstairs alarm was beeping every 60 seconds - as if the batteries were low - so I went down to check it but the batteries were scalding hot. They burned my finger while removing them - some were hotter than others. This seems really dangerous to me - the level of heat was way beyond normal. This is the second time it's happened - the first time was a few months ago and I replaced the batteries, but now it's happened again I know it can't be the batteries at fault - I think the unit is at fault. I searched the forums and was dismayed to find that this is a surprisingly common occurrence and many other people had experienced the same issue.
I already filled in the form that was available on one of the other forum posts,
If someone could come back to me as soon as possible I would appreciate it. Many thanks

This is a serious safety issue! Scalding hot batteries in Nest Protect units are unacceptable and clearly indicate a defect in the device, not the batteries. Multiple users have reported identical problems, suggesting a potential manufacturing flaw or design failure. Google should urgently investigate and recall affected units. **Stop using these alarms immediately** and contact Google Support for a replacement or refund. Safety first!"
**Key Points:**
- **Risk**: Overheating batteries can lead to fires or burns, defeating the purpose of a safety device.
- **Pattern**: This is a recurring issue (as seen in forums), not an isolated incident.
- **Action Needed**: Google must acknowledge the flaw and proactively replace faulty units.
**Advice for Users:**
1. Remove the batteries and unplug the Nest Protect (if wired).
2. Report the issue to Google Support directly [here](https://support.google.com/googlenest/contact/alias_emergency).
3. Replace with a temporary smoke alarm until resolved.
Hope Google addresses this swiftly! 🚨🔥

Thanks for your message SeoBlogs. Appreciate your support.
I'm afraid the link you've posted isn't working though - is there any chance you can double-check it's correct and if not, repost it?
I'd really like to flag it with Google as a safety concern straight away.
Many thanks

Hi there!
Thanks for posting in the community. I understand that one of your Nest Protects beeped every 60 seconds as if the batteries were low. It's concerning that after you replaced the batteries a second time, the batteries were scalding hot. That's definitely not the experience we want you to have. I appreciate all the efforts you've made to resolve this issue. No worries, help is here!

Hi there gmelanymelissa,
I'm still waiting someone to come back to me on this.
My smoke alarm is sitting on my table with the batteries removed - and therefore we have no smoke alarm protection in the downstairs of the house. If any fire were to occur, the circumstances would likely be exacerbated by the long time it has taken Google to come back to me.
What is the actual procedure here? Can you tell me what happened with the dozens of other cases of overheating that were reported on the Google Nest Community? At the very least I am expecting a replacement unit to be sent to me, but I am still in the dark as to what the standard procedure even is in these cases. This is not helped by the fact that with each case that has been reported, Google has encouraged the complainant to take the conversation off the Nest Forum by filling in the form and therefore change to an email based correspondence.
I have no problem with that in principle, but I was hoping to have heard from Google within one or two days of my complaint - due to it's relative urgency.
Please come back to me as soon as possible.
thank you
jmd23

I just had a similar issue, following.

Thanks for following lowtoast.
Progress has been slow to say the least - I expected more urgency from Google considering it is a safety issue. If it has happened to a lot of people that surely requires a product recall? But if anything concrete actually happens, i'll let you know.

Same happened to me. Any forward fix? Should I trust it? One battery about burned me. Rest room temp.
