Anyone heard any more about the ‘offer’ to be made to affected users of 1/2 Gen thermostats whereby support will be withdrawn 25/10/25. I am one such user but have 2 x Gen 3 and need to know Google Nest please which way I need to go, either change devices or stay if the offer applies if support is withdrawn from Gen 3 in the future?

I got my offer email a couple of months ago.

Why would you buy a new google device only for them to remove support for that in a couple of years?

One of my points made in another thread to Google, I asked that very same question.

That poster is not happy about the situation, as probably none of us are.

He raises a very good point, ‘is this legal ‘? Especially as it seems us outside N America are not being treated the same as those who are in N America. Maybe, whilst we have been told globally support is being removed for everyone outside N America that is not the case and we will continue to receive support.

If you live in the USA it's certainly legal because I'm sure it's written into the terms and conditions of the license. A specific law would be needed to override contract law. Apple does it, Google does it, Samsung does it, everyone does it and no one has been prevented from discontinuing services. The thermostat continues to work but it will not be accessible other than by walking up to it, like most thermostats work.
Even companies that have gone out of business and caused their products to stop working have not been held to account.

Hi @500Norton,
Thanks for reaching out! I understand your concern about the upcoming changes for your Nest Learning Thermostats, especially since you have both 1st/2nd Gen and 3rd Gen devices. I'm happy to provide more information.
For your 1st/2nd Gen Nest Thermostats, if you'd like to continue using the smart features you're accustomed to, taking advantage of our upgrade offer for the Nest Learning Thermostat (4th Gen) is a highly recommended option. However, if you're comfortable using your 1st/2nd Gen Nest Thermostats manually, they will still work that way for basic functions.
The good news is, your Nest Learning Thermostat (3rd Gen) is currently safe and fully supported, so you don't need to worry about those for now.
I appreciate all your responses.
Please don't hesitate to reach out to the Google Nest community if you have any other questions.
Regards,
Gabriela

I understand the upgrade offer is confined to N American users - as I am in the UK it’s not for us - am I correct in that assumption pleas

Hi @500Norton,
Thank you for your reply. I appreciate the time you took to respond to my post; I'm glad to share more details.
The Nest Learning Thermostat (4th gen) is currently only available for North America. If you are located in the United Kingdom, the Nest Learning Thermostat (3rd gen) and Nest Thermostat E are available for you.
Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any other questions.
Regards,
Gabriela

Hi, I have a question, why is the history not showing yet again please?
Friday
I bought my home in 2021, with a 2nd generation thermostat already installed. I haven't seen an email from nest. I think that it might have been sent to the home's previous owner. Is there a way that I can still get the discount when I upgrade to 4th generation?
