Air conditioner keeps turning on and off

I have a new installation of a Nest Learning Thermostat 3rd generation. I’ve connected the red, yellow, green and white cables. There’s no heat pump. When I turn on the air conditioning, it will run for a few minutes then shut off, then come on again and shut off.  Also, when the air conditioning is NOT set to go on, it will sometimes randomly turn on by itself for a few minutes.

Can someone suggest troubleshooting steps, or a fix?

Thanks!

@Lclowejd , often these type problems show up due to low battery power.  You did not mention a Common wire. You try a simple task.  Carefully Remove the Nest display and turn it over, attach a micro USB cable and charge the battery for several hours.  Replace the display and see if the problem persists.

Please attach a picture of the wires connected to your Nest Thermostat. If you took one of the wires on the old thermostat, include it as well, otherwise a picture of them attached to the air handler would be beneficial.

Hello everyone,

I wanted to ensure that everything was covered here.

Thanks for the input, @CoolingWizard and @DaveLister.

@Lclowejd, a picture of your system's control panel or your thermostat wiring would help. I did find a helpful article about the common wire, and let us know if you have more questions so we can move forward.

Best,
Mark
