Can I use temp sensor for my nest in a single zone?

Our bedroom is freezing compared to our living room where the nest thermostat is. Our house is one floor, one zone. If I use the temp sensor in the bedroom, will that work with a single zone? How does it work with the other rooms, will they be extra warm since the heat will stay on to warm the bedroom?

In short, The thermostat will keep the heater running till your room hit the target set point. The other solution is to close the vent in the other rooms so that most of the warm air will get to your room faster, and keep the other room a little bit cooler. I know there are some smart vent where they will open and close the vent automatically once the setting temperature is hit.

Hi folks,

Thanks for chiming in, @Athan1011.

@Rbjorkman, the Nest Thermostat offers a Nest Temperature Sensor that you can place in different rooms to monitor temperature and adjust the HVAC system accordingly. When using a Nest Temperature Sensor in a specific room, the thermostat considers the temperature in the bedroom when deciding whether to turn on or off the HVAC system. This helps ensure comfort in that room, but the HVAC system will still be controlled based on the temperature readings from the main thermostat location. The main thermostat will primarily respond to the temperature in that area, so other rooms should not become excessively warm.

The effectiveness of using a Nest Temperature Sensor may depend on the layout and airflow in your home. If there are significant barriers or limited airflow between rooms, the temperature readings from the Nest Temperature Sensor may not accurately represent the overall temperature in the house. Overall, using a Nest Temperature Sensor with your Nest Thermostat can help address temperature variations between rooms in a single-zone system, but it's important to understand the limitations and consider the overall airflow dynamics within your home. Also, take note that the Nest Temperature Sensor is only compatible with Nest Learning Thermostat and Nest Thermostat E. Learn about the Nest Temperature Sensor here in this link.

Let us know if that helps.

Best,

Zoe
