I replaced my home router and needed to reconnect my Nest Thermostat 3rd Gen. After no success and error messages saying it was already connected to an app, I decided to fully remove my app from my Nest account in order to start fresh. After selecting Reset on the thermostat, I tried to add this device to my Nest app. Everything goes fine until the end. I get a TD005 error saying it cannot communicate with the server. I've repeated the process a number of times with the same results.
When I checked my thermostat, I see the schedule is still in the memory despite the reset. I thought removing the batteries would help but after pulling the device from the wall plate, the battery is not a simple replaceable AA battery but below more screws, and from online videos does not look like something I would want to try.
How can I reset this device to remove the prior settings so I can start fresh and setup this device as a new device in my Nest app?

If it's still holding a schedule, it doesn't sound like the device was reset. Was it these steps you followed?
If you can still see the thermostat in the Nest app:
Once removed from the app:
The battery in learning thermostats is not user serviceable, so no need to worry about doing anything with its battery. Let us know how you get on!

No luck. Did full reset multiple times (including updating all info like the time, schedule, etc), rebooted modem/router, and cleared out account profiles on the app and with Google. Keep getting the TD005 error when I try to connect the app.
I'm ready to get a non-Nest replacement unless anyone has any other ideas. Very frustrating.

Hi folks,
Thanks for reaching out. I appreciate all the troubleshooting steps you did. The Nest Thermostats has a special router setting that needs to be enabled. It's also most likely that an unknown variable in your network environment is causing the issue.
Please check these recommended router settings:
If you're not familiar with Wi-Fi router settings, contact your internet service provider (ISP) or router manufacturer for help with these settings. After enabling those settings, try to set up your thermostat again, and let me know how it goes.
I appreciate the help, @davidking.
Best,
