Cannot Add Nest Thermostat to Google Home (Migration)

RayTheDeveloper

I have a Nest Learning Thermostat 3rd Generation thermostat. I recently migrated from a Nest account to a Google account given the notification that Works with Nest would be sunset on 9/28/23. The migration worked and I was able to access my thermostat in both the Nest app and the Google Home app. I was able to reconnect my Amazon Echo devices via the Google Nest skill. All was well.

Yesterday, I noticed that I was no longer able to control my thermostat via my Echo devices. I checked the Google Home app on my phone (iOS) and found that the thermostat was showing offline. I opened the Nest app and found that I could still control the thermostat. While troubleshooting, I decided to remove the thermostat from my Google Home as I thought re-adding the thermostat could resolve the issue. Now I'm stuck and cannot re-add the thermostat. Choosing a "new device" when adding results in me having to scan a QR code which the thermostat doesn't have. Choosing a "works with Google" device results in me being shown a page to log into my Nest account but it only shows me the option to log in with Nest. I need to be able to log in with Google and I cannot.

My thermostat is working without a problem. I can control it with my Nest app. I can no longer see the device in my Google Home app. How can I re-add the thermostat to my Google Home app so I can control it with that app or with my Echo devices via the Google Nest skill?

In recent months, customers adding a Nest Thermostat E or Nest Learning Thermostat in the Google Nest app have discovered that the thermostat was NOT being automatically added to the Google Home app.

Many of those customers in this forum have tried this workaround: In the Google Nest app, create a temporary second Google Nest "home/structure". In the Google Home app go to that empty second Google Nest "home/structure". This apparently forces the 2 apps to sync and the thermostat appears in the Google Home app.

Hi @RayTheDeveloper

The Nest thermostaat should be added automatically if you used the same Google account for both Nest and Home.

I agree that it is added automatically on the initial migration. In troubleshooting connectivity issues, I removed the device from Google Home after the migration. I'm trying to add the device back to Google Home. It isn't a problem with the thermostat as it works in the Nest app.

This worked to re-sync my devices. After re-syncing, I was faced with a communication problem between Amazon and Google but that was a separate issue that has since resolved. Thank you very much for this response!
