Cannot Login via Chrome

I have no issues logging into my Nest Thermostats via Safari.  However, in Chrome (a GOOGLE product), I am stuck in an endless loop; i.e., “Sign in with Google” where I choose my gmail account to sign in (just like I do via the app or in Safari) and it loops me back to “Sign in with Goggle”…and round and round we go.  I like apps, but get tired of having to do everything via my phone…and if I’m on my computer/web-browser, it’s easier to simply do it there.

I’ve seen multiple threads on this with no real resolution; plenty of “this is not the experience we want you to have” statements, but no resolution.  I can’t chat with someone, and the “call service” rang once and hung up before I could even answer…and it isn’t a number that I can call back.

I hope this can be resolved here…but if I’m being honest, I doubt it will.

Are you using the latest version of Chrome?

When doing this be sure to choose "all time" as the time range.

Hi David_K, I checked and my version of Chrome is up-to-date; Chrome is up to date Version 126.0.6478.127 (Official Build) (arm64).  I also cleared all-time browsing data, closed Chrome, restarted my MacBook.  Nothing changed. 😞

Does it still happen if you try in Incognito mode?

Yes, I just tried it in incognito mode.  I used URL https://home.nest.com/login/ ...I entered my email address, did the passkey thing, and it looped me back to the sign-in screen.

Do you have another device you can try with?

I’ve tried from my work computer.  This seems the be a problem with others…threads similar to this are out there and no definitive resolution was given before the thread was “stopped.”  I feel this is more than isolated issues…and needs to be addressed by Google…since both are Google products.  I appreciate your help and continue to welcome any troubleshooting you can offer.

And what happened? Does it do the same thing on your work computer?

I have the same issue, and have for months  I can login using Firefox using Google account, but chrome gets into the login cycle in both normal and incognito.  Recently, I rebuilt a computer from scratch, fresh windows and chrome install (latest), and it exhibits the same issue.

Hi rhldr,

Thank you for posting here in the community. I'm sorry that your Google Nest Account is not working as expected when using the web version for Chrome. But no need to worry, help is here.

Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

Login Problems:

  • If you're having trouble logging in, double-check your email address and password. You can also try resetting your password through Google's password recovery process.

App and Device Issues:

  • Browser Restart: A simple app restart can sometimes resolve temporary glitches. Close the page completely and relaunch it on your phone or PC.
  • Browser Update: Ensure you're running the latest version of the Google Chrome app. Updates often contain bug fixes and performance improvements related to login functionality.
  • Device Restart: If you're using a phone or PC, try restarting your device. This can clear up any temporary memory issues that might be causing problems.
  • Uninstall and Reinstall: If the problem persists, consider uninstalling and reinstalling the Google Chrome app. This will ensure a clean installation and remove any corrupted data that might be causing the login issue.

Please follow this good article if you need to Troubleshoot Nest app sign-in issues.

Let me know if you need further assistance.

Regards,

Mario

Hello Mario,

Yup, I've already done all of the troubleshooting steps outlined.  I converted to use Google Login years ago, so I have no option to reset username/password. Also, as I mentioned but perhap you missed it, I did a fresh chrome install on a fresh install of windows 10 and it also has the same issue.

Hi rhldr,

Thank you for following up. I am sorry if the information provided was incomplete. I’d be happy to help you with that. Let’s check it out.

  1. Browser Data Corruption:
    • Clear Browsing Data: Delete browsing history, cookies, and cached images and files. This might resolve corrupted data causing login issues.
    • Reset Chrome Settings: Reset Chrome settings to default to eliminate any conflicting configurations.
  2. Third-Party Extensions:
    • Disable Extensions: Temporarily disable all Chrome extensions to see if any are interfering with the login process.
    • Enable One by One: If disabling all extensions resolves the issue, enable them one by one to identify the culprit.
  3. Chrome Updates:
    • Update Chrome: Ensure you're using the latest version of Chrome.

Additional Tips:

  1. Check for Malware: Run a scan with your antivirus software to rule out malware interference.
  2. Other devices: Try using Chrome on other devices or try using other browsers.

Please follow this good article if you need to Troubleshoot Nest app sign-in issues or to Report an issue or send feedback on Chrome.

Let me know if you need further assistance.

Regards,

Mario

This is still an issue. None of the steps above have worked.

Any suggestions?

I've done everything everyone in this and other threads with this topic have said and nothing works.  I just login via Safari and all is good.  It's a shame that no one from Google has bothered to chime in and admit that there is a bug and that Google is working to resolve it...but like everything with these big tech companies, as long as the money is pouring in, "little stuff" like this isn't very high on their priority list...yet, they can "listen in" via my computer's microphone and track my clicks to know what ads to show me on every imaginable webpage!

Referring the community and troubled users here to another community is certainly not helping. Especially when it is the same company.

Your response is exactly what is wrong with this whole "community" thing.  I have tried all of the things listed in your response and just get sucked into the whole vortex of devastation that has become the standard of customer service[-lessness].  Until someone from Google takes ownership of this bug and offers a solution, I'm done with this never-ending runaround!
