Spoke to Google support, tried to connect both of my learning thermostats via PC and also tried my MacBook Air, tried two different cables as well.  Neither computer recognized the Nests and they are out of warranty.  Their solution was for me to buy two new thermostats!  These worked fine and now they aren’t accessible.  I can either live the rest of my life between 68-76 degrees until they die or buy new ones.  And they gave no discount either should I have wanted to buy new.  They lost a customer so now looking at alternatives.

Hey Tf84,

Oh no! I'm sorry to hear that. Could you give us the case ID from your interaction with our support team so I can take a closer look?

Thanks,

Archie

Still have no access to my two nest thermostats and now both of my nest detectors are also offline.  trying to update the wifi setting for the detectors which are still in the nest app to the new SSID.  App says “connecting” but never finishes the process.

Hello there,

I'm sorry for the late reply. I know it has been a while, but I wanted to stop by and see how I could help.

Thanks for the help here, Archie.

@Tf84, how's your thermostat? Were you able to get a chance to unlock it? Let us know if you still need help so we can assist you right away.

Regards,
Mark

No, not resolved.  Both thermostats are working and locked in a set temp range that I’ll soon need to change as it warms in ATL. I’m locked out of both thermostats, have no PIN and can’t access in app as the are deleted in the app.

Hi Tf84,

If your thermostat is no longer linked to the Nest app and doesn't have access to it, the only option is to manually unlock it by resetting it.

Please follow these steps:

  1. Using your personal computer (Windows, macOS, or ChromeOS).
  2. Get a USB data cable. To confirm if it works, plug in a different device (like a phone) and check if your computer recognizes it.
  3. Remove the thermostat displays from their base.
  4. Insert the USB cable into the USB port on the back of the thermostat display, and attach the thermostat display to a computer with the USB cable.
  5. Locate and open the folder or icon named "Technicalinfo.PLIST."

Let me know if you have seen it and what operating system your computer is on.

Regards,

Mark
