Common wire at thermostat

Have  common wire at thermostat. Found out later it was not connected in the furnace.

do I need this connected in furnace to make this thermostat work properly?

• Thank you for the follow up but I checked the furnace and found the common wire. It just wasn’t hooked up. It’s now hooked up and thermostat is working great thanks again.
