Compatibility with Ditra-Heat electric floor systems

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to determine if the Nest Thermostat is compatible with Schluter's Ditra-Heat electric floors which we are going to use in our bathroom. This is a very common electric floor system used in Canada and works with an electric cable that runs through the floor and provides heat.

I spoke with Schluter and they said that third-party thermostats are compatible if:

  • Must accept a 10K Ω floor temperature sensor
  • Must have built-in GFCI suitable for the application (e.g., Class A for bathrooms)
  • Must support heating cable voltage (120/240V, not 24V)

Can anyone confirm if Nest Thermostats have those things?

Thanks!

Hi atburi,

Thanks for posting here in the Community forum and for showing interest in our Nest Thermostats.

120/240V is considered as high voltage for Nest Thermostat and high voltage systems aren’t compatible with Google Nest Thermostats. However, some high voltage systems can have a step down transformer to 20 - 30 V by local HVAC professional to make it compatible.

Let us know if you have any other questions.

Best,

Zoe

Thanks, Zoe. I'll check with our electrician about the step down transformer.

I also spoke with a Schluter rep about not having a floor temperature sensor connected to the thermostat, given nest thermostats don't have this option. They confirmed that's fine, we'll just only be able to control the temperature via the air and not via the floor — which is OK for us.
