Confused on Wiring. Please help.

The first picture is my old thermostat wired by the builders. Second picture is how I wired the Nest. I initially thought it went well, but noticed that randomly my heat would kick on while in cooling. Nest wasn't switching to heat on thermostat... but I could feel warm air blowing through vents. So I realized maybe I made a mistake by choosing conventional over heat pump. I'm confused with my O and B being separate and with O being under the Y2. Do I acknowledge the Y2 or the O (or both) when trying to set up in the app? I don't believe I have duel fuel either. I want to make sure everything is wired and set the right way as to not cause damage to my system.

Do you know if you have a Heat Pump system?

Heat pumps use the outdoor unit to heat the house so did your outdoor unit run in winter with the old tstat?

If you do not have a Heat Pump then the orange wire would be for the y2 (2nd stage cooling for AC only)

So you need to know what kind of system you have and tell the Nest what the O/B terminal is supposed to do.

Is it supposed to be turning on the heat pump outside or is it Y2 2nd stage cooling?

If you do not know what you have go outside and take a pic of the outdoor unit decal showing the make and model number. Then type that into the internet and search to see if it comes up as a heat pump condensing unit.

Thank you for the response!

Yes, I googled the system outside -- Carrier 2 ton seer heat pump condensing unit. Does this mean I wired it correctly?

I have searched and never really see thermostats with the O/B terminal separated and under like it was on my old one. So when the app asked for what wires I have... I set it up as C, Y1, G, W2, O, Rh. I did not acknowledge the Y2. That's okay? Or do I have to acknowledge both? When I did say both Y2 and O, it told me only the Nest Learning was compatible with my system.

I live in Florida so we only really get a couple cold days a year. With the old thermostat, I could heat the house on those days with no issues. But I really don't want the heat coming on when it shouldn't. Since switching it in the app to the heat pump set up it appears to have fixed that problem.

Since you have a heat pump then you do not have a Y2, the old thermostat label for the orange wire was O for a heat pump or Y2 if you have 2 stage cooling system.

Since you confirmed you have a heat pump now we know orange is the O/B wire that switches the system from cooling to heating,

If it is working now and you tested the heat function and cooling function both are working than you should be good to go.
