Connecting the blue common wire

RonL

  • My nest thermostat is telling me that it is not receiving consistent power and needs a “c” wire. There is a spare blue wire at the thermostat and the furnace. However, there is already a wire connected to the “c” terminal at the furnace. Is it OK to connect the blue wire to the “c” terminal in addition to the one already connected?

Hi RonL,

Thanks for reaching out. I'd love to know more about this. Do you see the other end of the C wire tucked on your wall?

Thanks,

Edward

Edward,

i have a blue wire tucked away at both ends (at the thermostat and at the control board at the furnace) for both thermostats. My concern is that there is already a wire connected to the ´c’ terminal from somewhere. My question is it safe to connect the blue wire to the ´c’ terminal when there is already a wire connected to it?

Hi RonL,

Thanks for the response. Connecting the blue wire to the terminal would work, but I would suggest that we check where the other end of the wire that is currently connected to the C terminal is connected to.

Thanks,

Edward

Hey there,

It's us again ― how's it going now with your thermostat? Have you managed to trace where the wire connected to the C terminal is going?

Melba
