Controller turning ac compressor off while in cooling mode.

Hi, I installed my nest controller about 3 yrs ago and never had an issue with it. In the last three weeks my ac cooling temp will reach the set temp of 79 then when it restarts after house temp is warmer by 2-3 degrees it will turn on blower inside unit, compressor fan will turn on but the motor will not turn on. Air temp coming out from the compressor will blow cool air. When I turn off the ac, Restart in half  hour the ac will turn on with cooler air. I’ll go outside to check the compressor and feels the fan is blowing warm air from the compressor motor and I can hear the motor is on. I had ac tech come to see if anything is in need of repair. Everything is working fine.  He suggested to possibly changing my nest controller to the original Honeywell controller.

Hi Cdleon,

Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry for the delay — I know it's been a while now. I'd like to know more about it. A few questions: what type of Nest Thermostat do you have? You can visit this link to check what type of thermostat you have. Do you see any messages or codes on your thermostat or in the app? Please check your thermostat power readout.

You can follow the guide below:

Nest Learning Thermostat and Nest Thermostat E:

  1. Go to your thermostat Quick View menu.
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Look for Technical Info.
  4. Select Power.

Nest Thermostat 2020:

  1. Open the Google Home app and then tap the thermostat and then tap Settings .
  2. Select the Device Information.
  3. Choose Technical Information.

Also, check your thermostat Energy History. It might help you see what your thermostat was doing previously. You can visit this support article on how to check Energy History in the thermostat or in the Nest app.

If possible, please send us the diagnostic file from the technician who checked your system. It will help us to take a closer look into your case.

Best,

Jenelyn
