When the eco mode setting isn’t detecting movement in the middle of the night it turns off my heater and I wake up to a freezing cold house. I don’t know how to rectify this problem. Anybody have a solution?

@Damonmom , you must remember that the nest thermostat is nothing more than a smart tool that you can use to control your heating and cooling system in an efficient manner. And your particular case, you set the system mode to either heating, cooling, or the energy saving mode of ECO. if you’re going to use the ECO mode, you are going to have to set the minimum heating temperature you desire or in the case of summertime, you set the maximum cooling temperature you will desire. Both of these temperatures should be set to a point where you can save energy and not specifically comfortable.
The reality is that the nest should be used as much like a conventional thermostat as you feel comfortable. That is when you are home, you will set the desired system mode. Your choices are heating or cooling. When you leave the home you can set the system setting to ECO. It’s not intended that you use this economy mode when you’re at home.
There is another feature called the Home and Away. This feature uses the smart phone that has the app on it as a controlling gatekeeper. That is to say, if the phone leaves the home, the nest will switch the system mode to ECO. When that smartphone returns to the home, it will switch the system back to the system mode that was operational when the phone left the home. And in the winter that is heating, in the summer it’s most likely cooling.

This is the first time that I have seen anywhere about not using ECO mode when at home. My nest has been 'learning' for the last 2 weeks and is coming on at random times and not coming on in the morning despite having a schedule set up. It is a really confusing system compared to a a traditional thermostat. I will try having theECO mode off now.

@MMcG , when you first installed the Nest Thermostat you have the option to deactivate the auto schedule. The purpose of the auto schedule is learn how and when you make changes to temperature set point. I typically disable this feature since people are not consistent when it comes the daily time they make temperature set point changes.
Using your Nest app, you can disable the AutoSchedule feature.
