Got an H71 error code when trying to reset connection to heatlink after new meter was installed. Tried all the help suggestions then discovered an error in inputting the pairing code. Thermostat will not allow me to get into settings before defaulting to displaying the error code again so cannot reset. Any suggestions?

Hi there. Thanks for reaching out. Let's try these steps:

1. Bring the display and base closer to the Heat Link and make sure the boiler is not in between the Heat Link and thermostat - only if possible.
2. Turn off the router and other WiFi or Bluetooth devices ( router, speakers, cordless phones, baby monitor, etc. ).
3. Select Replace Heat Link.
4. Enter the entry key ( do not confirm it yet ) — you can find it at the bottom side of the Heat Link, near the screw.
5. Restart the Heat Link twice by pressing on the Nest button for 30 seconds each time.
6. Confirm entry key.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I have followed all these steps with the thermostat right beside the heat link with nothing in between. It has still failed to connect. What else can I try?

Hey @Crm. Was the thermostat on its base when you tried this? What color is the LED on the Heat Link? Can you tell me the distance between your Heat Link and your boiler? ( a photo of the Heat Link and its surroundings will help )

The thermostat was on its base. The LED is pulsing blue. The heat link is quite close to the boiler casing - see photo. It has all worked successfully for months, even when the boiler was replaced in the same situation as the old boiler. However, the boiler and heat link were switched off on Monday when the gas engineer fitted a new gas meter outside our house. Don't know if that is relevant31F4C0B3-26ED-49C8-BCC2-944C38576BFB.jpeg

Thanks for the photo. The Heat Link is too close to the boiler. The metal casing of the boiler will cause interference, preventing the thermostat to connect to the Heat Link. You should have at least 30 cm between the Heat Link and any other object that can cause interference. Moving it further away should solve the issue.

I thought this might be your advice. However it has worked perfectly well since we moved into the house 10 months ago and we had no problem connecting when the new boiler was installed in November last year. The thermostat is positioned just below the heat link without the boiker in between.

 

I wonder how we can reset the thermostat to factory settings and start again. The problem is that we cannot get far on the thermostat settings menu before the display reverts to the H71 error code.

Hey @Crm. Even if you manage to reset the thermostat, you'll run into the same issue. You won't be able to connect them.

Still doesn’t explain why we could connect before but not now. Also what is the fix for getting into the settings menu with the thermostat reverting to the error display before being able to do anything?

It is possible that when it was installed it was not mounted and that helped it connect. Another option would be to first connected using wires and then disconnecting it from them, leaving only the wireless connection after. 

 

Whatever the case might be, it is something that we recommend as being to close to metal objects or objects that cause other types of interference can certainly cause it to lose connection. If not constantly intermittently. 

 

From the message with the H71 message you should option to continue. Once you select that you will see multiple options to try and reconnect. Below all these options the last one will be technical info, should you want to check any technical information.

 

As for the rest part, you can try so after restarting the thermostat to get to Settings> Reset> All settings but you may not be able before the message comes up again.

Have been through all the items below the H71 message and have repeatedly tried to get to settings without success.

Where on the thermostat would I connect with wires to the heat link? It is not obvious from looking at the thermostat.

Hey @Crm,

 

If you pull the display off the base, you'll see that there are 2 screws that have T1 and T2 marked next to them. You need to connect a wire from the T1 and T2 terminals on the Heat Link to those on the thermostat's base. Make sure to turn off the power before doing so.

Thanks. i can see where the wires go but what kind if wire do I need and will the display fit back on the base with such wires in place? Also will they need to remain in place permanently or just until we get it working again? Is there perhaps a video showing how to do this?

The wire should be maximum 2 mm² thick. Here's the installation guide, maybe you'll find it helpful: https://bit.ly/3nt2N4t. You can find installation videos on You Tube and you should see thee exactly how to connect the Heat Link with the base through T1 and T2, and once that's done, you can attach the display back to the base. Once you connect it wired to the Heat Link, you'll have the option to connect it wirelessly as well, which is what you need to do. Let me know how it goes.
