Just installed a Nest thermostat, received error code E294, any help?

Seen this somewhere, not sure if it makes sense to you:
SOLUTION: So basically, I had to add a C wire (even though no where did anything say for sure that that was what was needed), and then NOT TELL the Home SET-UP app that the C wire was there. So I hope this helps someone else, and saves that person many frustrating hours!

This has been an issue for over 2 years. This answer does work, but it's a work around/hack. Completely unacceptable, that Google hasn't remedied the issue.

I had this same error. Turns out it was due to having erroneously selected Electric rather than Gas Furnace at setup (Electric is pre-selected). Reinstalling the nest and selecting correctly fixed the error.
