Factory Reset of Nest Thermostat Gen 3

I have replaced Gen 3 with Gen 4. I would like to sell my older thermostat but I neglected to reset to factory settings before I made the switch. Using only usb power, I cannot get the unit to go into settings. It only goes to the G logo and request that I return it to the back plate. Is there a way to do the reset without uninstalling the new thermostat?

In this case, I recommend reinstalling the Nest Learning Thermostat 3rd gen to access its settings and effectively perform a factory reset. For instructions on how to reset it, please see this article: Restart or Reset a Nest Thermostat. This process can only be performed when the thermostat is attached to its base plate.

The reason i posted is because i don’t want to uninstall the Nest Gen4. Can i reset with just USB power?

Thank you for getting back to me. Regarding your concern, the factory reset can’t be performed while the thermostat is connected by a USB cable, because there’s no option to access the settings; it must be connected to the base plate.
