Frustrated with Google nest

SheriLG

I am beyond frustrated with the Google nest.  At the end of sept changed the thermostat so it would not follow a schedule and we had consistent heat (manual mode).  This morning woke up and the house was freezing.  The thermostat changed back to a schedule (nobody had touched it).  Feel like I’m spending more money trying to reheat this house cause the thermostat has a kind of its own

I would have to agree with the level of frustration after spending so much money on the Nest Learning Thermostat. Why spend so much money on a thermostat that doesn’t have a ‘Hold’ option?

From what I have learned you have no choice other than setting a schedule. I am trying the Eco Mode but it’s not very clear if it will actually stay at that temperature.

I just returned from vacation to find my home very hot and wasted energy while nobody was home. I don’t want my thermostat to use my phones location to determine how to set the temperature; has Google ever heard of pets and pet sitters that still need to be at home with a comfortable temperature!?! Or teenagers at home when we aren’t?! Why would I want my heat to turn down when I leave the house for a few hours?! So frustrating I will probably return.

It seems true that the Nest is really designed to operate to a schedule, so that will probably give the most satisfactory results.  It's unfortunate that it won't behave the way you want.

Replying to @HeatherW's additional comments:    Eco Mode really is the Permanent Hold option.  That's what we use for vacations.  It's worked just fine for us for years.

Also, I agree that I don't want my house to deviate from the temperature schedule except on vacations.  We don't use HomeAway Assist.  You can just turn it off.

Thank you for the advice about the Eco Mode for vacations, @CBFox. We are a Google family, so I like the thermostat otherwise. We have three thermostats in the house, two of which need the sensor pods because of bad placement of our thermostats. There are not a lot of options out there to do that and the Nest was the median choice. I’ve seen a lot of complaints about the Hold feature missing, so maybe Google can figure out a software update for it 🤞🏻

@SheriLG I would turn off Auto Schedule (if not already) and try setting a schedule, even if it’s one temperature once or twice a day. I did that yesterday and, so far, today has felt better.

Hi folks,

I'm sorry to hear that the thermostat isn't maintaining the set temperatures. I'm sure that is frustrating, but I wanted to see how I could help.

@CBFox and @HeatherW, thanks for sharing more possible ways to have the Nest thermostat stay on a specific temperature set. We appreciate your efforts to do all the suggested steps.

@SheriLG, we'd like you to have a better experience as well, and I wanted to ensure if you were able to do the steps being shared in this thread. How's it going? Still need our help?

Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns.

Thanks,

Mark
