Took base off wall. Checked wires are secure and anchor buttons clicked down. All okay. Checked power at breaker. Looked good but I flipped it off and on anyway. No help. Checked app: it said it has no connection to the Nest E and reminds me I never use the app and says it lost its connection to Nest E months ago. Read things on line and watched some YouTubes. Lots of discussions about Nest needing a C wire to recharge Nest battery. I have no C wire.

I JUST WENT TO THE NEST EnAGAIN. THIS TIME I TURNED THE DIAL AND IT LIT UP!  Message came up and said the battery was low but was recharging!!  So Nest was off 3hours + with loss of AC equal amt of time.

So does anyone know what caused the Nest to spend its battery and turn my whole system off! Is it likely to happen again? Is it likely my Nest is a problem. It had another problem last December requiring a hvac guys intervention. I read today Google is no longer in business of making these or their home Echo Alexa like devices and support will stop at staggered dates. I’m nearly 80 and just want things to work and last until I’m out of here! Thanks for any help,

Hello S MacAngus,

Sorry to hear about your hot home! That's no fun to deal with, especially in a California August (also a native; hello!). Let's see what's going on here.

A blinking red light typically means that your device's battery is charging. Depending on its level of power, it can take up to 3 hours to fully recharge.

However, what might've caused your battery to drain is the lack of a c-wire. Your thermostat uses your HVAC's power sources to keep a consistent charge. When your device drained, it switched to being powered by its internal battery reserves and reprioritize features by enabling/disabling. We strongly suggest contacting a Nest pro to help with wiring as c-wires can be tricky to set up.

Hope this helps! Stay cool and let us know if we can help with anything else.
