Heat won’t kick on

When I turn up the heat it doesn’t kick on.  I have to swipe the nest colder than current temp and then go back above the current temp and it kicks in right away.  

any suggestions?

Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry for the delay. The Nest Thermostats should run your heating or cooling system if your set temperature is higher than your room temperature. A few questions: do you see any messages or codes on your thermostat or in the app? What type of thermostat do you have? You can visit this link to check what type of thermostat you have.
