Help with wiring Nest Thermostat

Designerb84

I live in a new apt building. I have a Bulldog heat pump system. From doing the compatibility check my system should be compatible. I installed the nest and matched the wires exactly from old thermostat to the nest.
Y - yellow

W, O\B - white

G - green

RH - red

C - black

I’ve read that most O\B wires are orange but mine was white and in a dual labeled slot. I have additional wires in the wall that were not used. I did not touch those.

My system is running ac and fan but the heat test did not blow any heat out.

here is the system I have.

will nest work with my system?

Yes use the W slot then under nest heat settings need to figure out on what type of heat you have! If it’s gas or electric & then it’ll ask you if the blower fan should come on with the heat which is for most electric or heat pump or should the equipment turn on the fan if it’s gas heating hope that helps good luck

Colors of wiring not as important as letter designation slots. Your old stat had the white wire to o/b but somewhere must be a switch that tells it to use O or use B need to configure same in the nest stat under settings good luck

The old slot is w & o/b. How do I know which new slot it should go to? Nest has separate slots.

If it’s a heat pump system it’s goes on the o/b slot on nest. Then under nest settings you configure your system to heat pump & forced air and then You can choose O or B for reversing valve there’s a third option which is I don’t know

I would choose O for now cause most system use that then test your AC & heat if you get warm air in AC mode or cool air in heat mode than you go back into settings & make the switch to use B instead of O good luck

Understood, thank you.

supposedly in this heat pump system there is no reversing valve. Would I use the W slot in that case? What setting would the heat be on the Nest?

Yes the system seems to be working. The Neat is working and I have air conditioning. The fan blows when I turn the heat on but the building said the water towers are in summer mode and I am unable to test the heat.
