High pitched noise from thermostat

I came home yesterday and the nest thermostat is making a continuous high pitched noise. I tried everything on the device and app to turn it off but couldn't and had to take it off the wall because the noise is so uncomfortable.

Would I be correct in saying you have a 3rd generation thermostat? That noise sounds like a battery issue not having enough power to fire up the processor.

Based on this information, I'd like to ask you a few questions. I'm happy to help!

  • Could you send us a video of the sound you're hearing from your Nest Learning Thermostat?
  • Did you see any error codes in the app you use to control the thermostat?
  • Have you had any recent power outages?
  • Are all the breakers in your house turned on?
  • Are any of the wires damaged?
