Installation Upgrade from Gen 2 to the Nest Thermostat Version

I have had issues for a about 2 months with my top thermostat upstairs not cooling at night. Very random, but it has gotten worse. I am not sure if my damper system is going our to the thermostat is. I am going to start by changing out the thermostat so I upgraded to the Nest Thermostat. My question is before i take them out of the box, am I going to have the change the back plate out and the other wiring plate from the old thermostat?

Would I be better off hiring a HVAC specialist to come out and install?

I appreciate any feedback from the community. Thanks in advance and have a great day!

Hello Techiedad,

Thanks for reaching out to our community.

Installing a new Nest thermostat can be somewhat complicated, but don’t worry, I’m here to help.

If you’re interested in getting a new Nest thermostat, you’ll need to swap the backplate as a Nest Learning thermostat 2nd generation’s backplate isn’t compatible with the Nest thermostat display. If you’re up to the challenge Nest thermostats are designed for ease of use; the installation guide on your app comes with very detailed instructions, making the setup of your Nest thermostat very DIY-friendly.

Feel free to check out this article about how to install your Nest thermostat to get a more detailed look at what you’ll need to have in consideration when you install your thermostat; however, you can check out this article about professional installation and service as well if you’d prefer to contact a qualified professional in your area for installation assistance.

Let me know how it goes.

Regards,

Angel.
