Installing nest in apartment with heat pump

Thunt836

Hello, I’m finally in an apartment that seems to be compatible (last apt was stranded wires) and am excited to install my nest thermostat. Below is an image of the one I purchased and have yet to use or install

However the wiring does not seem perfectly straightforward to me and I just want to make sure I do it right. See image below for current thermostat wiring. System is a heat pump according to the documentation

Please help if you are able to, thanks very much!

Hi Thunt836,

Thanks for posting here in Community forum, and I'm sorry for the late response. I'd like to take a look at this for you.

Aside from the wiring photos of your current thermostat, can you also help us with the photo of your furnace control board, where the other end of the wires are connected, as well as its make and model?

I'll look forward to your response.

Best,

Zoe

Hi, thanks for the reply. I ended up just doing a bunch of research and I think I’ve gotten it hooked up correctly as it seems to be working. I’ll include the pictures below. I wasn’t able to figure out the model number myself, but there are also some pictures of the documentation on the heat pump. The origin plate of the wires is just numbered, no actual labels unfortunately

Now that I know it works, I did upgrade to a nest learning thermostat. I have not installed this yet. If you are aware of any differences or changes to how I need to wire it up, please let me know

Hi there,

Thanks for getting back to us, and I appreciate you being ahead of the troubleshooting.

I see that your control panel has the non-standard labels of 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7, which means that your system is proprietary.

Proprietary systems aren’t compatible with Google Nest Thermostats. However, some proprietary systems can be rewired by a pro installer to be compatible.

Let us know if that helps.

Regards,

Zoe

Hmm that is strange, as I already installed a Nest and it works perfectly...

Either way, thank you for the reply! Have a good day
