Is it possible to link Nest with a dual system heat pump remote control thermostat?

I recently purchased a house that has a dual system heat pump.  It does not have a wall mounted thermostat.  It only has a remote control that allows you to select the setting and temp.  I miss my Nest thermostat at my old house.  Is there anyway to hook up a Nest thermostat to this kind of system?

@luv2ff , if you have a remote control that activates the unit are you using mini splits or ductless systems in that new house? Can you get me the make and model number of the indoor unit and the outdoor unit?

It's a ductless split-system heat pump.  There are two outdoor units and two indoor units, one mounted on the wall downstairs and the other in the family room upstairs.

The manufacturer is Mitsubishi Electric.

Outdoor model # MUZ-GL12NA

Indoor model # MSZ-GL12NA

I was thinking of putting a Nest on just one of them.

@luv2ff ,

all ductless mini split manufacturers use a proprietary 3-wire communication system between the indoor and the outdoor units and they are not compatible with a conventional thermostat such as a nest thermostat.

Thank you

You might be able to connect your Nest thermostat, but it depends on the compatibility of your heat pump system.Some dual system heat pumps can integrate with smart thermostats like Nest, but you may need an adapter or professional installation to ensure it works correctly.

@markhelbert21 ,

All ductless mini-splits manufactured for sale and installed in USA must meet higher energy efficiency standards mandated by DOE.  Their design moves components normally in the indoor air handler, outside and inside the outdoor unit.  The main control is performed by a sophisticated control board in the outside unit. This control board used RS-458 communications protocol to gather data from the indoor unit.  The indoor units use a proprietary wall mounted thermostat or a Bluetooth hand held remote.
