Hey gmarnyc,
I wanted to follow up and see if I could be of any help. You can use our Compatibility Checker to enter the wires you are seeing. Please let me know if you are still having any trouble from here, as I would be happy to take a closer look and assist you further.
Best regards,
Jake

Hi Jake,
Apologies as I thought I was able to reply via email and realized the message bounced back. I meant to say yes, I still need help as I took the compatibility checker quiz multiple times and concluded with the same result that I needed additional help. There is a wire called G (green) in the second photo that was not part of the survey. Please let me know if my thermostat is compatible with the wires R, G, P, and B, as shown in the second image. The first image is just the cover that I unscrewed to unveil the wires shown in the second image.
Thanks!
Gina

Hi Jake,
Just following up. I have the nest system and want to install it. Please advise if that is possible with wire G.
Thank you,
Gina

Hi gmarny,
Thanks for reaching out to us and for showing interest in our Nest Thermostat.
Can you help me with a photo of your HVAC control board where the other end of your thermostat wires are connected? It will help us determine the compatibility of your thermostat wires with our Nest Thermostat.
I'll look forward to your response.
I appreciate your help, Jake.
Best,
Zoe

Hi,
is the second picture I sent you of the HVAC control board? I tried to remove that and there is nothing behind it… it’s like a hollow box with wires coming out.

Hi folks,
@gmarnyc, thanks for the follow-up. The HVAC control board is where the thermostat wires connect to your heating and cooling system. In most cases the control board can be found at your furnace or air handler.
Best regards,
Zoe

I don’t believe our AC has been updated since 1986 when our building was built, so it is likely not compatible. Thank you for your help!

Hello there,
I wanted to ensure that everything was covered here.
Thanks for the help here, Zoe.
@gmarnyc, usually it's hard to specifically determine if a certain thermostat with the same standard label is Nest-compatible. Most of the time, the make and model of the HVAC system and its control board helped us distinguish how it could be labeled. But there are situations where a Nest Thermostat can be compatible with wiring changes. It would be best to consult an HVAC technician for its compatibility, and let us know if you have more questions.
Regards,
Mark

Thank you, Mark! I may reach out to a technician but the AC is very old and I’m only renting so would be difficult to update. Thanks for your help and info. Best, Gina
