Is temperature sensor seriously not wiith new Nest

I’m trying to add a Nest Temperature Sensor to the new Nest Thermostst I just bought.

After trying google troubleshooting, which was useless, I went to google nest community and learned that the sensor is not compatible with the thermostat.

Is that true? Is the temperature sensor *not* compatible? If so, why does Nest not explicitly say this on the box?

Which Nest did you buy? The Nest Temperature Sensor is only compatible with the Nest E or the 3rd Gen Nest Learning Thermostat.

Naming conventions for most companies are not very good these days, as they want to build on the brand awareness they already have.  I find the best bet is to be SUPER cautious when buying tech, as we have all been burned!

Thanks for the info, but it’s really unfortunate. I wish the temperature sensor’s box listed the thermostats that it is compatible with. I would likely have bought one of the other models.

It doesn’t help that the new Nest Thermostat is named simply “Nest Thermostat”, which seems like a generic label vs a specific model. If the other models have names such as Nest E or 3rd Gen Nest, it would be useful if the model I just bought have a specific name such as Simple Nest or Nest Basic vs Nest Thermostat. And…is an older nest also named “Nest Thermostat”? Or are they changing the name to “Old Nest Thermostat”? 🤷🏼‍♂️😁

At least now it’s actually working and I can control it remotely, which is nice.

Yep, always good advice, and “now more than ever”! 😁

ps-maybe Nest will get enough feedback that they’ll switch to say Nest 6, Nest 8…Nest 12, Nest 13, etc. (hmmm…seems somehow familiar..lol). Or even Nest Thermostat Gen ‘X’…so people know which one they have over time…or maybe I should just follow your advice & be cautious! 😉

Hello,

Do any temperature sensors (that can adjust the thermostat based on the temperature of another room) work with the new nest (v1.4 per google home, not the E or learning Nest)?

If the answer is no, then can I connect both the nest thermostat and the nest temperature sensor to an alexa, samsung hub, nest hub or some other hub and have the nest use the temperature sensor reading to control the HVAC?

Thanks,

Samer
