Issues with Nest and AC/Furnace

Have had Nest for 3yrs w/o issue.  Power went out for 16 hours.  After coming back on:

Nest says it needs to shut itself to recharge itself…

After awhile Nest looks normal…turned on AC….AC unit running fine, but nothing coming out of vents….also AC unit seems to be turning on and off and on…

Checked breakers…looked fine, but flipped ‘‘em back and forth anyway…after awhile, cold air starts to flow from vents…

It does for about 20 min…then no more…I check breakers and furnace is tripped…

Reset breaker a few times, AC unit fine, but air never returned.  after a few trips, gave up.

Charged Nest with USB for 2 hours, and tried again, breaker tripped again.  Went back 2 hours later to check power on Nest, and it’s completely black, no power?

Any Help or ideas on what might be going on would be appreciated!,,,,

Sounds like an issue with your indoor unit. You might have a shorted control board because of the power outage. Bad blower motor capacitor or motor itself. Dirty / clogged air filter that cause short cycling on the outdoor unit if equipped with low pressure switches. Hope that helps. Good luck.

Hi folks,

Thanks for reaching out and for being a step ahead of us. I'd like to check it further. A few questions: what type of Nest Thermostat do you have? Do you see any blinking light on your thermostat? Try to press and hold your thermostat display to restart. Provide your thermostat power readout.

You can follow this guide:

  1. Go to your thermostat Quick View menu.
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Look for Technical Info.
  4. Select Power.

Also, check if your system needs maintenance.

  1. Test by turning power to your system off at the breaker switch.
  2. Wait a few minutes and turn the power back on.
  3. If the issue seemed to fix itself but then returns after a short while, your system may need maintenance.

I appreciate your input, @HVAC.

Best,

Jenelyn
