Learning Nest 3rd gen offline in app.

Hello,

I have a Learning 3rd Gen. It is always connected to the WiFi’s, and shows connected on the screen. When I’m not home, and often times when I am home, the app on my iPhone shows the Nest as being offline. But if I go up to the Nest and adjust the temp in any way, the app will show (shortly after) online and can make adjustments. I’ve removed from my account and reinstalled it, I’ve changed SSIDs, I’ve factory wiped it; and I’ve tried screaming at it (repeatedly).  Nothing has helped. Please help me stop ripping my hair out.

I don't know the answer, but mine is doing the same thing.  It's like it goes to sleep and then wakes up when it detects motion.

Hello folks,

It sounds like you're having quite a frustrating experience with your Nest Thermostat. Connectivity issues can be a real headache, but let's try to troubleshoot this together.

Double-check your Wi-Fi signal strength near the thermostat. If the signal is weak, it might lead to intermittent connectivity problems. Consider relocating the router or installing a Wi-Fi range extender to improve signal strength.

To both of you, make sure that your router settings are compatible with the Nest Thermostat. Some routers have specific configurations that might affect smart device connections. Check for any firewall or security settings that could be blocking the communication. Please check out this article, Update Wi-Fi network and router settings.

If the issue persists, gather the power readings in the Technical Info settings. If the battery level drops to 3.7 volts, pull the thermostat display and charge it for an hour. Also, check for any message codes or reports in the Equipment settings that may help us determine what is causing it to go offline.

Keep me posted.

Thanks,
Mark

Hello, Mark

my router is 10’ from the unit with clear line of sight. The power levels have been consistent. I have checked my router settings many times and can’t find anything wrong with its configuration. There’s even a provision for smart devices.

Hi RyanC63,

Thanks for the details and for checking your router settings. Let's sort this out. Please give these steps a whirl:

  1. Go to thermostat Reset settings > Account Connection > Reset to confirm.
    1. This will completely unlink your account and forget the Wi-Fi network.
  2. Once refreshed, reconnect it to the Wi-Fi with your new credentials.
  3. Proceed by adding it in the Nest app.

Let me know how it goes.

Best,
Mark

I’ve done this twice in the last six months.

Hello RyanC63,

Got it. To confirm, are you getting any message codes or reports in its settings? Could you provide us with your thermostat's power readings in the Technical Info settings? Also, from what country are you posting?

I'll look forward to your response.

Thanks,
Mark
