Logged out every time I want to change thermostat settings

Almost every time I try to reset the temperature in my home I find I am logged out and am asked to log in using Google or my Nest account! I refuse to use Google as I know Google is tracking my settings and sending them to our government! For what purpose I am unsure! I then had to enter my e-mail address and password and was told I had to enter a 6-digit code sent to my e-mail address. How can this be stopped?

From time to time, we are asked to log back into the Google Nest app.

Being asked to enter a 6-digit code sent to your email address is due to 2-Step Verification, which Google Nest requires on all non-migrated accounts:
