Moving and leaving my nest thermostat

Hello.

I am moving and leaving my best thermostat for the new owners. If I factory reset the thermostat will it still work as a normal thermostat?

Kelle18, you need to go into your nest app and remove the thermostat first, then perform a factory reset.  The new owner will need to know that need to download the Nest app then start the configuration process.

So what if I just reset it. Will the new owners be able to set it back to factory settings on their own

If the nest is registered in the nest app and thus the cloud, it will not be able to be assigned to a new nest account. If you are transferring ownership and title to Nest thermostat, you must go into your Nest App and “remove” the thermostat.  You can choose to do it after, however the reset works better and more seamless when the thermostat ID number is not registered to any Google Nest account.
