Multi Zone System

Hi, I am upgrading my home to a two-zone (upstairs and downstairs)  heat pump system. Currently, my house is 1 zone system, and all my wiring for my thermostat is upstairs.

Do I need to add wiring to the downstairs for a 2nd nest or can I put a wireless thermostat down there to control zone 2 and have it communicate with my learning nest which will then communicate directly to my new HVAC?

My installer wants to put a completely different wireless system in but I'd like to keep my nest if possible.

LMK!

Changing a single zone system to a multi-zone system requires a lot of work and changes to your system beyond just adding in a second thermostat.

Unless the installer uses a proprietary zone system, there is no reason that you can't have two Nest thermostats, one for each floor.

Do you have any idea of the make and model of the zone system they are installing?

Hi Patrick,

Thank you for your response.  The installer is using a TrueZONE panel system and wants to put this Honeywell unit in because it can have a 2nd unit downstairs that communicates with the main unit wirelessly.  This would mean that the installer doesn't have to run wires to the 1st floor of the house which they say will be very complicated.  I was hoping I could run the nest in a similar configuration as the HW  system with one nest wired and triggering both zones. The 2nd unit monitoring the temperature of the 2nd zone and sending the info wirelessly to the main unit.  However, I may be misunderstanding how the TrueZone system works...

Hi folks,

@Patrick, thanks for the help!

@Richa3131, Thanks for reaching out. As of now, we don't have an option to get the Nest Thermostat communicate with another Nest Thermostat wirelessly. It needs to be wired to your system for it to work. I understand that having this feature would be easier. Our team is always looking for ways to improve and we'll take this as feedback.

Thanks,

Edward
