Multiple Nests

I have a client with a large property and they want 40 Nest thermostats - one in each room.

I understand that 20 per "home" is the limit in the app. Is it correct that we could split the building in to 2 "homes" to increase to 40, and if so how would that work across one wifi network?

thanks

What what type of property has 40 rooms that would need individual control of conditioned air for each room? Is this a residence or a commercial building or apartment complex?

It's a single private residence.

Well you could create two homes ie. Home-North, and Home-South.  Then have 20 Nest thermostats on each 1/2 of the home.  This approach will have many zone controllers.

A better approach for a home of that size,   I feel for  sure your customer should be going a VRF type of HVAC system with multiple distribution units serving ceiling cassette evaporators units each room.  If that is the case, there would be a proprietary thermostat in each room thus giving every room a unique heating or coloring simultaneously.  That is one room can be heated while a different room is being cooled.

Hello folks,

I wanted to ensure that everything was covered here.

Thanks for the input, @CoolingWizard.

@Huers, I can imagine they have a smart home there there. In addition to what was mentioned by Ken, since controlling and monitoring them remotely would rely on their connectivity, please let them know to have a strong and reliable Wi-Fi network to avoid being disconnected since multiple smart devices will be set up.

Feel free to let us know if you have more questions in mind.

Regards,

Mark

hi Mark, thanks for coming in.

it is unusual this one - they don't need the smart requirement at all, they have no interest in using app control or any form of automation. they want to use the nest stats as a dumb rotary dial localised to each room.

the only issue is the initial set-up where we have to connect to the app. I just want to make sure that I can do that, but it sounds like that is fairly straightforward with the 2 homes split, using 20 stats in each "home"

Hi Huers,

That's interesting! Controlling the HVAC system using the Nest Thermostats doesn't necessarily have to be on a Wi-Fi network. Once they've been configured with the system, they can skip the Nest App and Internet connection option.

Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns.

Best,

Mark

hi Mark, one last question. In the US it is possible to buy the Nest with a brass surround. But in the UK we only seem to have the stainless steel or copper option. Is it possible to buy the brass version in the UK, or to buy the brass ring as a spare part?

thanks

Hi there,

Thanks for getting back to us, Huers. I appreciate your interest in the Nest Learning Thermostat Brass. Unfortunately, stainless steel, white, black, and copper are the only variants available in the UK. In line with this, I want to encourage you to send us feedback about having a brass-colored Nest Thermostat in the UK.

If there’s anything else I can help you with, please let me know.

Regards,

Mark
