My Nest is coming on during the night and throughout the day when set at 13o

My Nest is coming on randomly through the night and at random times in the day. It is 0o outside and I have the temps set at 13o.

is it coming on because the house is dropping lower than 13o?

my concern with lower in the temp is it will take longer to heat when needed. I currently only have it set to come on for an hour in the morning and two hours in the evening but it’s actually coming on for 6 hours a day costing me a fortune!

help!

One possibility that could explain the Nest coming on too often is that presence sensing may be turned on (or Home/Away Assist, depending on your model).  For troubleshooting you want to turn off that "smart" feature.  Then your Nest ought to run strictly according to your schedule.

What schedule do you have set up in your Nest?  Is it something like:

7am    18

8am    13

6pm    18

8pm    13

That's an example of a schedule that would run the Nest mostly just for an hour in the morning and two in the evening  --  but yes, if the room temperature drops below 13 the heat will come on at other times.

Do you have a motorized valve linked to your water tank?.We had the same problem. This should close when temperature is reached. We had our valve replaced and all is ok now.
