My nest thermostat doesn't charge at the base

Nikkid

My nest thermostat is not charging at the base.  I called for an HVAC company to take a look at it.  They said the wires are connected correctly.  Please help.  It's been a cold winter and a nightmare coming home to a freezing house.

Hey Nikkid,

Sorry to hear about your Nest thermostat and also for the delayed response. I want to check on this further.

A few questions — what type of Nest thermostat is this? Are you getting a specific message or code on the display of your thermostat? Also, has this worked with your HVAC system before?

You might also need  to charge the display using a USB cable. To do this, pull off the thermostat display and use the USB port on the back to charge it with a USB cable and wall charger. Depending on the model you have, it'll be either mini or micro USB.

Keep me posted.

Best,

Melba

My nest won't stay charged.  I have to take it out and charge it every 3 days so that it's on.  Software 6.2-22

I have the model display 3.4

Serial #09AA01AC131802KJ

I can't tell if it was ever able to charge because I've been having this issue since I got the new system.  I'm not getting an error message. It's just not charging.  I keep having to take it apart and charge

Hi folks,

@Melba, thanks for the help!

@Nikkid, I apologize for the late reply. Could you tell us how your Nest Thermostat is wired? Also, please check the power readings of your Nest Thermostat. You can see this information by going to Settings > Technical Info > Power.

Thanks,

Edward

My nest thermostat doesn’t charge at the base only usb, it’s always worked fine on the base. I checked the wires from the wall-all connected. Is there a setting for telling it to charge VIA base or usb?

Hello Akadonnajean,

I'm sorry to hear you're having issues with your thermostat that won't hold its charge. I'd be happy to take a look at this for you.

Could you please share with us the power readings on your thermostat? You can view them in its Technical Info settings. Also, is there a C-wire connected to its base?

I'll look forward to your response.

Regards,

Mark

Hi Ryan,  it seems as though the nest I had was damaged.  I have a new one and it's all fixed. Thank you
