My thermostat won’t connect to Wi-Fi

Herewego

I’m on my second nest thermostat in 4 years.  It works great for about a year at 300.00 then just won’t connect to the Wi-Fi.   Which now it’s just a normal thermostat you can buy for 20 bucks    I’ve done everything support has to offer.  Anyone figured out how to correct this issue

Can your nest thermostat see any wifi networks at all? If not, I suspect a bad wifi chip.  If it can, then I'm surprised a factory reset didn't do the trick !

I have the same issue. I've been offline for 30 days. I've done the hard charge, I've done the hook common wire to the furnace for a constant charge but it still wont connect to the wifi and when depressing just to do a manual adjust it take up to a minute to even get a display. If they wear out and I need a new one I wish there was a clear cut" your nest is shot buy a new one" This one is about 3 years old

Which Nest thermostat do you have and how do you have it wired?

Are you receiving any error messages?

I’m having same issues. I’ve had a Nest Learning Thermostat gen 2 for 3+ years. Decided to add a Gen 3 upstairs. It works just fine but won’t connect to Internet. I’ve tried hard resets, disconnecting wifi router, using QR code versus device password/serial number, etc.

Hey Jwcardona82,

Sorry to hear that you're experiencing the same concern.

Just to confirm, what specific Nest thermostat do you have? Is this the new Nest Thermostat that has a mirrored display? If unsure, please check this out: https://bit.ly/3plXioy Also, are you getting a message or a code on your thermostat display or on the Google Home/Nest app when trying to connect it to your WiFi network?

Let me jump on as well. My NEST e is about 1 year old and had the same issue. I have just factory reset it and played with my phone as a hotspot. I have charged it via USB and everything else I can think of.

any ideas.

Hey Timopp,

Thanks for chiming in and I'm sorry to hear that you're facing the same experience with your Nest Thermostat E. I have the same questions as well to be able to dig deeper into it:

  1. Are you getting a message or a code on your thermostat's display or Nest app when connecting it to your WiFi network? If yes, what is it?
  2. Were there recent changes made on your WiFi, thermostat or Nest app before this started happening?
  3. When you tried connecting it to your phone's mobile hotspot, was it successful?

Tell me more so I can check it further.

Best,

Melba

My nest thermostat started having this issue yesterday after I unplugged one of my Google wifi access point. It connected for about 10 minutes today and then lost connection. The nest itself shows the wifi connection error w5

This is about 1 year and a half old not the mirrored version

Thanks for chiming in and I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing this on your thermostat.

Have you tried restarting your Nest thermostat too? If not yet, please give that a shot then let me know what happens. Also, where was this bought as well as what country are you in?

Good Afternoon,

I have a gen2 nest thermostat.  It has been in place and operating for over three years.  I am very happy with it really.

We are having work done to the house and have had to turn off the electricity to the house.  Now the nest thermostat will not see any wifi signal at all regardless of the source.  Not the house router, not a jet pack router, not my phone.

I am in Vermont, USA, and am considering purchasing up to 5 more of these units for the 5 other zones in the house.

I suspect this is a battery related problem,  that the WiFi chip was turned off to preserve system battery, I just can't get it to turn back on.

Please advise on what to do?

I have done a factory reset, power off reset of the wifi router.

Can you go into technical information and see what the voltage on the thermostat is? Should be around 3.89V.  if you suspect a low battery, take if off the mount and plug into a usb charger for a while(hour or two) to see if that charges it back up.  Do you have a C wire with your setup? If not then it would only draw power when running the system, which could be a cause of the low power.

I have had it plugged in for an hour or two.  I will check the voltage.

Vbatt=3.854

Vin=36.60

Vc=36.60

Iin=200mA

I do have C wire.  I think power may have been off for on that circuit for a day or more.

The battery is at 3.926

Voc 36.60

Vin 36.6

Lin 200 ma

Battery seems fine, voc and vin are about right (mine are currently around 38), Lin is only one that is significantly different from mine (mines 40) . Saying that if the battery is full and you aren't seeing any wifi signals at all, it's probably the wifi chip.  I hate to suggest the normal "have you tried a factory reset" line, but that might be an option here.

Sorry have you tried a normal reboot yet?

Did the factory reset. Can't add the thermostat back in my home app and won't find internet connection

The unit will also go dark and I have to unplug it and plug it back in to get it to come one. At that point it is says that the wiring has changed

Same issue.

I have a Gen 3 Nest thermostat with a display that reports “Connect your thermostat to Wi-Fi to add it to the Nest app.

Pressing “Connect” results in “Searching”,  “No networks found yet”

Display “TYPE NETWORK NAME”, “Network security”, and “Password” results in the display “Failed to connect”

I have a total of three Nest Thermostats in the house. Two other Nest Thermostats are working fine, and are controllable with the IOS Nest App.

I’ve had the Nest Learning Thermostat gen 3 for 3+ years.

Setup=>network=>Does not list any networks.

Setup=>network on one of the other Nests shows a list of available WiFi SSIDs.

DISPLAY: “POWER” has “Battery, 3.926V“

I do have C wire.

I have charged it via USB

I have tried a normal reboot, but with no luck

I have tried network reset, but with no luck.

I have rebooted my router, but with no luck.

I am located in the US.

Whelp, I could wait no longer and I have exhausted all options. My system even had its warranty service a week ago and they couldn't do anything either. Soooo, Nest is gone and I bought the Ecobee Smart system.
