Neat thermostat 3rd Generation h71

Our nest is currently showing the H71 display, we have done everything possible to try and connect it to the heat link such as:

  • Bringing it closer to the heat link.
  • Reconnecting the heat link, turning it off for 10 seconds then repeating for 30 seconds.
  • Putting in the key code to reset heat link.
  • The heat link is constantly flashing blue there is no yellow or green light appearing on the screen
  • we have tinted WiFi off to see if that was interrupting it but still no joy.

We don’t know what else we can do to try and fix it. Just looking for suggestions to see what else we can do.

Hi there! Sorry to hear that you encountered issues with your thermostat. Please try the steps below in that order and let me know afterwards how it went.

1. Reset the Heat Link by keeping the button on it pressed for 30 seconds until the LED goes slowly pulsing blue.
2. Take the thermostat off the base and give it a restart, off the base by holding the display and the back of the thermostat pressed for 10-12 seconds. (Hamburger reset)
3. While the thermostat is restarting, do not put it back on the base yet, but instead, reset the Heat Link again just like before.
4. After the Heat Link is reset, put the thermostat back on the base when it asks you to do so on the screen.
5. Go to: Replace Heat Link (underneath the H71 error code) and enter the 6 character entry key from the Heat Link, but do not connect just yet.
6. Restart the Heat Link twice (1 restart is a 30 seconds press, until the LED goes off once).
7. Press connect on the display.

Thank you for replying I appreciate it!

I tried everything you have said and still no luck! it just shows the image below and then goes back to the heat link h71 screen.

Thanks for trying. From the picture I see you have the thermostat mounted on the wall. Is it wired to the Heat Link or powered with a micro-USB cable in the wall? If it was wired to the Heat Link it should generally maintain a wired connection even if it loses the wireless one.

If you just bring the display closer to the Heat Link to try and pair them, it will not work as it needs to be mounted on the base and connected to power.

Also, just to check, how long has it been installed and working as expected before this behavior first occurred?

It is wired to the heat link. We moved in to our house in November and the previous owner left it for us. He was at the house 5 years but not sure how long he had it. We have been at the house now for 7 months this month and it’s been fine for all of that apart from now.

Thank you for the information. If the thermostat is wired to the Heat Link and is not displaying a wired connection, that would indicate the wired connection to the Heat Link was lost. Let us do a quick test to see if the manual mode is still working on the Heat Link, so you have it on hand while dealing with the connection between the Heat Link and display.

Press the button on the Heat Link for just a moment. You should see 2 green LED lights come up and the system will start heating and hot water if available. Press the button again to turn it off. Let me know if it is working as expected.
