I have a 1st generation nest and I am trying to add it to my google home app and it asks for a QR or 6 digit number

This does not exist on the 1st gen models

no, I do not have the box as I got these over a decade ago.
how do I set this up for my google home display and home app?

If you have the Nest Learning Thermostat, 1st Gen, you have to use the Nest app to set it up, and once set up, it will show up on the Google Home app if you have migrated your Nest account to a Google account.

My Gen 1 has a very small QR code on the back of the thermostat

That is great for you.  Mine does not.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for stopping by, @Patrick_Caezza and @RichardM

@GaylaW, Thanks for reaching out. I'll be glad to take a look at this for you. If your phone can’t scan the QR code, you can manually type in the key or serial number to skip the scanning of the QR code by following the steps in this guide.

  1. Tap Continue without scanning at the bottom of the QR code scanning screen. Then type in your product’s entry key or serial number.
  2. You can tap Find the code or Show me how, and the app will show you where the serial is located on your product.

Let me know how that works.

Best,

Zoe
