Need nest thermostat entry code (pin) for old learning thermostat

Trying to combine Nest Thermostat and Nest doorbell. I had thermostat and working fine. When I added doorbell, I used different email address and it wiped out (or wrote over) the thermostat app. I tried to combine the two but I need a pin for thermostat. It is old and I dont know what was used when it was installed. When using the dial on the thermostat  -settings, then Nest app -- it says I have an account. I'm going round and round with no help - and dont know what to do. Can someone please help? I have several emails - please use #. Thank you

If your thermostat is still connected to Wi-Fi and you can see it in the Nest app or Home app, you can unlock and reset the PIN using the app:

Lock and unlock your Nest thermostat - Google Nest Help

If you can't control it using the app anymore, you'll need to reset it using a computer.

  1. Connect the Nest Thermostat display via USB to a computer.

  2. Verify that the Nest Thermostat mounts (appears as an attached drive icon).
  • If the Nest drive will not mount: Restart the thermostat and the computer.
  • If the Nest drive still won't mount: Connect another device to the cable to see if it appears as an installed device.
  • If it doesn't appear, use a different cable/port/computer.

If the Nest drive is successfully showing up on your computer, can you see a technicalinfo.PLIST file? If you get this far let me know and I'll ask a community specialist to assist with next steps, as these can't be shared publicly in the community.

Thank you David for your reply. My nest Thermostat is already mounted and working (probably for 10+ years ) My heating person installed it back then and gave me the entry code   978-LENS The app will not give me a - to enter. Is there an over-ride I can use? I am fearful of taking the thermostat off the wall, and I doubt it had a QR code.

It doesn't sound like the thermostat is locked with a PIN (that is a feature of some thermostats), it's more the thermostat is not in your Nest app and you don't know what account it was setup with.

To fix that:

  1. Press your thermostat to open the quick view menu.
  2. Go to Settings > Reset > Account connection (if you don't see an option to reset the account connection, you'll need to factory reset the thermostat).
  3. If you haven’t already, download the Nest app on a phone or tablet
  4. On the Nest app home screen, tap the Settings cog
  5. Tap Add product. The app will switch to a camera view to scan the thermostat’s QR code.
  6. On the thermostat, press it to open the quick view menu and tap the Settings cog.
  7. Turn the ring to select Nest app and press to open it.
  8. Select QR code. Your thermostat will show you a unique QR code to scan with the app. If it doesn't, tap Continue without scanning in the app and select Get entry key on your thermostat instead.
  9. Follow the remaining steps in the Nest app.
