Is this Robertshaw thermostat compatible with Nest?

The wires read:
  • RH
  • RC (metal jumper between RH and RC)
  • W
  • Y
  • B
  • O
  • G

Hey there Brendan Milnamow,

I can definitely understand the confusion when it comes to thermostat issues as it can be very odd to figure out sometimes, but I'm happy to look into this for you.

First off, I would suggest using the Compatibility Checker to see if your system is compatible. If you need help with wiring or installing you can always contact a pro to come out to help you with this since I know that the Nest thermostat is not compatible with stranded wires, every wire has to be connected to the Nest Thermostat system.

Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns as I'm happy to help.

I have a Robertshaw 9500 (slightly older model) and just installed a Nest 3rd Gen Learning Thermostat. The installation was a breeze following the wiring diagram. The issue I'm running into is that my forced air HVAC system relies on this thermostat to turn on the fan. Apparently, this is done by setting the Gas/Electric switch to Electric (that top switch on your motherboard). The Google Nest default fan setting is"Don't Activate" to rely on the furnace to activate the fan. I need to set this to "Activate" and I can not find the relevant fan setting under the Pro Setup. Can anyone help? I've spent 1.5 hrs already with Google support and going mad...

After going back and forth with Google support, we figured out a workaround. Go through Pro Setup menu, click on W1 (power), and change the Source from Oil to Gas. Now the the Fan option will appear allowing you to set it to "Activate". No idea why the Fan option doesn't appear for Oil as I'm sure there are a lot of people with oil furnaces and forced air 🤔
