Nest E Wiring for 6 Wire

ColeC412

Hello,

I decided to finally connect my Nest yesterday after getting Wi-Fi in my new home. After I wired it it continued to tell me no wires detected. I trimmed the wires back again and tried again and I get the same issue again. The wires are solid core 20 gauge wires so they should work. Although the other issue is I’m not sure it’s necessarily wired properly either. I have: R, G, O, B, Y, and W. I’ve put them into the corresponding plugs on my plate, but when it comes to the O/B I have both cables.. so I’m puzzled. Any help would be appreciated! On my last thermostat by the way, the brown was tucked back into the wall.. so if that helps.

Update: brown is not connected to the furnace is brown is eliminated. But wires still aren’t being detected after following every online direction and the Nest directions in the app.

I wanted to follow up and see if I could be of any help. I found an article that has more details on when a wire is not being detected. Please let me know if you are still having any trouble from here, as I would be happy to take a closer look and assist you further.

Best regards,
Jake

Hey there Jake. I appreciate it, I’ve actually got everything taken care of now. I reached out to google and they determined I actually had a bad Nest as it simply wasn’t reading any of my wires. I will have to take the warranty route for now.

Hey there,

I am glad to hear everything is being taken care of, and you are getting a new device. With that being the case, I am going to go ahead and lock the thread at this time. If you run into any questions from here, please feel free to create a new post.
