I bought the Nest E thermostat because I saw many places it could work with out a common ( C wire). I have a two-wire heat only system on an ancient furnace there is no common on the furnace. I installed the Nest E using the R and W1 terminals. It turns the furnace on but the furnace makes strange sounds but runs and sends heat but it won't shut off when at temp.

Hi Mjflaherty,
Thank you for reaching out to the community. I apologize that you're having trouble turning on the heating with your Nest Thermostat E, and that your furnace is making strange sounds and is unable to turn the heating off. I understand how frustrating this can be. Let's work together to find a solution.
Before I begin, I need to ask a few questions for further assistance:
When did the issue start?
What other strange symptoms have you experienced since the problem started?
Are there any error messages? If so, what are they exactly?
Have you checked your Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system's compatibility with your Nest thermostat through the Compatibility Checker tool?
Do you notice any intervals or specific patterns between these strange behaviors?
When was the last maintenance check for your HVAC system?
Have there been any recent changes or upgrades to your HVAC system?
Have you experienced any power outages within the last few days or weeks?
Please keep me posted. I'll look forward to your response.
Regards,
Byron
