I haven't purchased a nest control unit as yet, I have been told by various people that you have to connect it to USB charging port all the time, is that correct ?
Can it not be used on a mobile type system to take from room to room
I have heard other systems you can do that with the thermostat control unit rather than it be plugged in one place

Hello garyleyden,
Thanks for reaching out and for your interest in purchasing a Nest thermostat.
In most cases, Google Nest thermostats can use your heating and cooling connections to charge their internal battery. Connecting it to a USB charging port is not necessary unless needed. You can definitely use, control, and monitor the Nest thermostat remotely by adding it to the Nest App or to the Google Home App depending on what type of Nest thermostat you're interested in.
Here are the helpful links that you might need.
Feel free to let us know if you have more questions in mind.
Thanks,
