Nest/Home apps conflict on home/away assist

The presence sensing of my Nest thermostat isn’t working.   Within the nest app, when I turn on use phone location,  it disables it in the Home app. Within the Home app under presence sensing, it will say "you're using this feature on another phone", and if I change it by selecting "switch to this phone", it will disable it in the nest app. So Nest does not switch to away status when I leave the house. It seems to me that this is because of some conflict between Nest and Google Home. 

Does anyone have any experience/fixes for this?

My understanding is that Google is getting rid of the Nest app. Eventually... For now your best options are to 1. Not use phone for presence sense and let the Nest use it's built-in one. 2. Set up a routine in Home app with the typed in command "set the xx thermostat to eco mode".

Thanks but I’ll stick with Nest as long as it survives and have deleted the Home app. It’s a waste of time.
